Today’s Wonder of the Day was inspired by Myla. Myla Wonders, “who invented school clubs” Thanks for WONDERing with us, Myla!

You're a unique individual. Did you know that? It's true! There's no one else in the whole world just like you.

But guess what? You're also an important part of many different groups. For example, you're an important part of your family. You're also part of a classroom and a neighborhood.

You're probably an important part of several other groups, too. What are we talking about? Clubs, of course!

Clubs can be an important part of school and, indeed, life in general. Clubs bring together all sorts of different people who share a common interest. For example, do you have a chess club at school? It's most likely made up of people from all different sorts of backgrounds who share a love for the game of chess. Maybe you're a part of a robotics team that competes to engineer and build the best robot. Your friends on such a team all probably share an interest in robotics.

Clubs have been around for thousands of years. Ever since the first group of people got together to pursue a common interest, clubs have existed. Some clubs might be purely local, while others are statewide or even nationwide.

Today, there are more clubs than you might imagine. There are clubs that focus on games, such as chess or cards. Other clubs might revolve around sports, such as table tennis or horseback riding.

Some clubs exist to raise funds for a particular group they support. Other clubs bring together people who share common career interests, like farming or computers. Still other clubs encourage members to participate as a group to complete community service projects.

Some clubs allow anyone to join, while others may have membership that must be earned. For example, some academic clubs require that you achieve certain grades to become a member.

Still other social clubs, such as fraternities and sororities, exist to strengthen the bonds of friendship among their members. They may have special requirements and processes for those interested in joining. Sometimes the friendships formed as part of these clubs last a lifetime.

Clubs are a great way to meet new friends who share similar interests. They also provide experiences that can be hard to find outside of the club setting. In addition to fun with friends, club membership can give you skills that will help you become a better student and person.
